Tunisian startup NUMAIQ closed a $300,000 pre-seed round in early September 2026, from a single business angel based in the UAE.

What NUMAIQ is building

The company is developing voice AI technology for how businesses handle calls with their customers.

According to founder Ahmed Mahouachi, the idea came from a simple observation: many businesses lose customers because their calls are handled poorly, and existing solutions focus on processing high call volumes at the expense of the caller's experience.

A round before the product

What stands out is the timing: when the deal was signed, the company had no finished product and no customers. NUMAIQ says the money will go into building the technology and a first version of the product without rushing it.

According to Tunisian outlet Managers:

  • The funding is paid in three tranches, the first already received
  • The technology was developed across Tunisia, France and Egypt
  • Work on handling the specifics of Arabic dialects is still in progress
  • The company planned to show a first version of its technology at GITEX Istanbul

A tough Tunisian context

For comparison, Tunisian startups raised about $300,000 in total in H1 2026, across just 3 rounds, according to Wamda data reported by African Manager. NUMAIQ's round alone is close to what the whole ecosystem raised in six months.

Why it matters

When an investor backs a company before it has a product or customers, they are really backing the team. In a market where funding is scarce, building the right team from day one is what makes the difference.
